At the center of the composition there are two young boys united in a bond of affection and familiarity.
The scene is simple and rustic and both are wearing traditional clothes depicted in great detail.
In the foreground there are several doves pecking at the seeds that have fallen to the ground and others are approaching the basket.

Tommaso De Vivo:
(Orta di Atella, circa 1790 - Naples 1884)
A student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, in 1821, as a pensioner of the Royal Institute, he moved to Rome where he frequented the studio of Vincenzo Camuccini, from whom he took inspiration for his works. He also showed interest in the French Academy in Rome and in French painting, inspired by Léopold Robert. He studied mainly at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and in 1838 he was a member of the Congregation of the Virtuosi at the Pantheon. He participated in numerous editions of the Bourbon Exhibitions with paintings on mythological and historical subjects. Around 1833 he executed the drawings for the illustration of the History of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies published in Rome and, in the 1940s, three Allegories of the Divine Comedy painted on commission by Ferdinand II of Bourbon who appointed him Inspector General of the royal art galleries. His paintings are preserved at the Royal Palace of Naples, the Royal Palace of Caserta and the Capodimonte Museum. Among his paintings of allegorical-celebratory subjects we remember the Allegory of Strength and Shyness, with Mars and Venus, purchased by Margaret of Savoy in 1869, and Italy and its Geniuses, donated to the Senate of Italy.
