Ancient Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas work depicting a religious subject, Station of the Cross, of good pictorial quality. Painting of great size and impact, for antique dealers and collectors of ancient religious paintings. Work representing Christ crowned with thorns in the centre, intent on lifting the cross.
All around, various characters increase the drama of the scene. We find a Roman soldier at the top right next to Mary and other characters. Just above Christ a man seems to help Jesus, he could therefore be Simon of Cyrene (the Cyrenean) protagonist of the fifth station of the Via Crucis. The figure of the tormentor on the left depicted tormenting Christ is terrible and at the same time well presented (see photo).
Painting of important size which has undergone an intense conservative restoration, relining, replacement of the frame and recovery of color in various places (see photo). Overall, the painting is in fair condition with visible signs of restoration.
