Item description

This pair of glazed ceramic sculptures depicting two oriental court dignitaries, made with refined decorative taste and typical of Italian artistic production of the mid-twentieth century. The works are from the Ugo Zaccagnini & Figli factory, active in the famous ceramic district of Sesto Fiorentino, known for the quality of its artistic productions. Dimensions • Height: 40 cm • Width: 13 cm • Depth: 16 cm The two figures are represented sitting on quadrangular stools, with solemn and measured poses that evoke the dignity and authority of the characters depicted. The statues are made of ceramic with shiny white enamel, enriched with polychrome parts in shades of bronze and gold details. This chromatic play highlights the details of the clothes, hairstyles and accessories. A character is depicted with a long stylized beard and an elaborate headdress decorated with geometric and floral motifs. The composed posture, with one arm bent and the other supported, suggests authority and wisdom. The other is represented with a high and ornate hairstyle, characterized by sinuous decorative elements. The attitude is elegant and composed, with the arm raised and the other resting along the body, while the dress falls in soft folds that enhance the three-dimensionality of the ceramic. This combination of colors - white, gold and bronze - gives the whole an elegant and scenographic appearance, much appreciated in the decorative furnishings of the Sixties. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Zaccagnini factory stood out for its high-quality decorative productions, often inspired by exotic and oriental themes, very popular in European interior design of the period. The figures of particularly oriental dignitaries or wise men were widespread as ornamental objects for living rooms and representative environments. With logo inside Ugo Zaccagnini & Figli was a company producing majolica and ceramic objects founded in Sesto Fiorentino in 1905 by Ugo Zaccagnini (1868-1937), former plaster molder for Ginori di Doccia. In 1936 the factory transformed into "Società Anonima Ceramiche Zaccagnini", then into "Zaccagnini S.p.A.".
