Oil on canvas. French school of the 18th century.
Glimpse of a port landing near a white city, with ships anchored offshore and lifeboats with passengers moving to or from them.
Numerous figures animate the scene, set at dawn, with a sun still low behind the clouds from which its rays filter to illuminate the sky.
We know similar works by the painter Charles François Lacroix de Marseille (1700 - 1779), who worked for a long time in Italy, establishing himself with his ideal views of the Mediterranean coast, and recurring port views, a synthesis between realism and ornamental taste with an overcoming of the classical landscape, anticipating solutions of Enlightenment and romantic taste.
Il dipinto è stato in passato sottoposto a restauro e ritelatura.
It is presented in a stylish frame.
