Venetian wall light from the 1950s made of polychromatic glazed ceramic, depicting a sailor in a dynamic pose. The figure has a strong sculptural and decorative quality, with a white uniform, blue collar, red and white striped shirt, sailor hat and gold details.
The subject holds a golden bottle in one hand and a luminous sphere in the other, making the object a combination of a functional applique and an ornamental ceramic figure. The glossy enamelling enhances the colors and accentuates the theatrical character of the composition, typical of certain mid-century Venetian production. The work has a stamp and signature on the back.
Similar figures in polychrome glazed ceramic were also produced by authors such as Otello Rosa for the same manufacture, within the Venetian decorative tradition of the 1950s.
