Item description

Giotto Stoppino designed the Parioli sideboard for Acerbis in 1977, the same year his Sheraton credenza — designed with Lodovico Acerbis for the same manufacturer — won the Compasso d’Oro. Stoppino trained at IUAV and the Milan Polytechnic, worked alongside Ernesto Nathan Rogers and Vittorio Gregotti, and went on to collaborate with Kartell, Bernini, Driade and Acerbis across a career that earned him three Compasso d’Oro awards. The Parioli system reflects the modular logic typical of Italian design in this period: independent storage units — hinged doors and a drawer module — that could be combined in different configurations depending on the client’s needs. This example presents wood door panels, book-matched to show a continuous, symmetrical grain across each front, paired with a satin steel drawer module set between them. The top runs the full length in a single wood-edged surface, with a slim steel inset strip along the front edge echoing the drawer finish. The base sits on a recessed steel plinth, a detail consistent with Acerbis production of the period, which lifts the visual weight of the cabinet off the floor.
