Artist Gianpietro Cavenaghi, who lives and works in the province of Lecco, uses a distinctive, textured technique, which is clearly evident in this work: he creates the base of the canvas with a cement base into which he inserts other materials, often "poor" ones, such as cardboard (here the corrugated cardboard), paper, and plastic, giving the composition a decidedly textured feel.
Other materials are often added over the figures, such as the glitter in this work.
His works, while figurative, always have a metaphorical meaning: for Cavenaghi, the bullfighter jousting with the bull represents a metaphor for life, a metaphor he leaves to the viewer to interpret.
