Item description

Oil on canvas by Domenico Zangrandi (Quinzano, Verona 1928–1999), titled First Night and signed by the artist. The work depicts a bull mounting a cow, used as a symbolic metaphor for desire and the wedding night. The scene is set in a nocturnal stable with white curtains in the background, and is characterized by dense, sculptural brushstrokes and a cool palette of blue-green tones. The painting combines elements of the rural world with a reflection on eros and union. Signature present. Condition: good, consistent with the age of the work. Dimensions: 120 x 80 cm.
