Item description

Petrella Vittorio da Bologna (Bologna 1886 - Turin 1951) was an Italian painter and draftsman. It is formed mainly by self-taught and is considered a representative of futurism. Realizes oil paintings, drawings and lithographs depicting landscapes, especially Venetian and Nocturnal, flowers and also fantastic motifs. He exhibited in Turin, Rome, Venice, London and other major cities, exhibited at the Venice Biennale from 1926 to 1948, at his first exhibition in Turin in 1914 one of his oil was purchased by Vittorio Emanuele III. In this design is represented a squero, ie a small shipyard where they build and repair small rowing boats in Venice. We are not faced with the classic Venetian view but is depicted something that, in a sense, is more intimate and hidden. On the sheet the points of view multiply; in the foreground we observe the boats from above, we see their interior and how they are built, while in the background tools and objects that look like trees, a palisade, reflections perhaps on the surface of the water create dynamism and uniformity between space and subject. The contours are sharp, the play of light created by shading gives life to the subject. The author has adopted his typical sign, point and flat in order to render the corporeity of the volumes. At the bottom left in pencil autograph writing: "Petrella da Bologna/1925/Venezia". Excellent state of preservation. Drawing executed on a light sand-colored album page, along the left side is still preserved the original band that tied it to the binding.
