Item description

These two particular pediments were originally parts of antique pendulum clocks, the central circular portion is in white fire enamel with Roman numerals in black and is set on an embossed and gilded brass plate. On the gilded and burnished one is represented a scene in which a kneeling young man, with miserable luggage in his left hand, greets his woman and his dog before embarking on a long sea voyage, you also see depicted the ship and in the lower corners are embossed marine motifs. On the golden one is described a graceful country scene in which a couple of young people dance in the midst of sheaves of wheat, while a musician plays a wooden flute celebrating the feast of the harvest. On the dial of the golden one is imprinted the name of the watchmaker Gaston Jardieu of Agen, French municipality capital of the department of Lot and Garonne in the region of New Aquitaine, in time was a renowned location of various watchmaking workshops. The two dials finely made in France with craftsmanship in the Louis XVI style, have the old mercury gilding and can therefore be dated between 1850 and 1870, they have no practical functionality, but with their classic lines and sober, with their harmony and proportion, can be two objects of elegant furniture, sought after and certainly unique pieces.
