Item description

Empire writing desk from Central Italy, supported by lion feet, on the front has a foldaway door, which can be opened by a mechanism accessible at the bottom of the cabinet and concealing two drawers, is surmounted by a drawer of reduced dimensions. In the upper part, there is a foldaway roller door, concealing a pull-out desk top with a morocco imitation insert (later replaced), equipped with a spring system that gives access to secrets; there are compartments and drawers. The riser has a single door with mirror concealing a castle with compartments and drawers. The uprights on the front have the characteristic truncated-pyramid shape, ending in gilded bronze drip mouldings and surmounted by burnished bronze female herms in the lower body, while the upper body features Egyptian caryatids. Made of mahogany, the interior is made of chestnut wood.
