Item description

A splendid bar cabinet designed in the 1920s, of refined Italian workmanship, testimony to great mastery in woodworking. The cabinet has two legs that cover the entire depth of the base. The feet are made of wood and have a classical style, reminiscent of ancient Greek structures; they are made of grisaille wood painted white. The central body has a very massive rectangular shape. Both the base and the top are chamfered and have a frame that protrudes, like the column friezes. The top is framed by a very classical Greek fret in white painted wood. The base, on the other hand, is made entirely of ebonised wood, which gives an even more sumptuous effect. The front cabinet has two doors that can be opened using a brass key in original patina. Each door is decorated with an antique Greek frame in a rectangular shape, showing in relief the figures of two women who, in keeping with the style of the cabinet, resemble goddesses or muses. One is depicted with a harp in her hand, thus representing the musicians who entertained the people, while the other is shown with a book under her arm and a small bird resting gracefully on her fingers. The woman indicates the wisdom and serenity typical of Greek symposia, and it is to this that this piece of furniture, suitable for symposia settings, is meant to refer. The real surprise comes when you go to open the doors: the cabinet is in fact an illuminated bar cabinet. The doors open like a window and show a single central space made of wood in original patina. At the bottom one notices two wooden drawers with a round brass knob for storing useful objects. At the sides one notices two bevelled wooden shelves running along the thickness of the cabinet, all enclosed by a very sinuous and beautiful brass frieze. Also on the doors are two shelves for storing bottles or glasses, as long as the entire length of the door, also enclosed by the same frieze. On the shelf above the inner drawers are lights that allow you to see when the cabinet is open. This bar cabinet is timelessly elegant, in the classic Greco-Roman style, for true enthusiasts.
