Round walnut coffee table in Art Deco style, 1930s

Round walnut coffee table in Art Deco style, 1930s 16
SILVER Seller in Prato, Italy

Item description

A refined and elegant Austrian Art Deco walnut coffee table; it has a very clean and linear form, aesthetically refined and pleasing. The round top is supported by solid, wide-section legs, in the centre of which is fixed another comfortable top; the structure thus constructed is very sturdy and stable. The upper top has been veneered in 'orange wedge' with walnut feather, which enhances the colours, flaming and grain of this beautiful wood. The same treatment was done for the lower table top. The coffee table was made between 1930 and 1935 in a craft workshop in Riegersburg, a small Austrian municipality in the district of Südoststeiermark, Styria, which is famous for its furniture production, a limited but high quality production. The craftsmen were inspired by the desire to design a small object with strong, simple lines and gave the coffee table a timeless elegance. Its design plays between austerity and rigour and its exaggerated linearity gives the object a dynamic and stately character. The craftsmen used 'Juglans regia' wood, known as 'national walnut' or 'European walnut', a highly prized wood that is among the best in terms of quality, ease of workmanship and durability. Due to its preciousness and special technical characteristics, walnut wood lends itself to a wide variety of uses, but always in contexts of the highest quality, making it particularly appreciated in the luxury furniture sector. Moreover, walnut wood has a good aptitude for finishing, in particular for both sanding and varnishing, and finally also for polishing. Polishing in particular also benefits from its ability not to impregnate: polishing waxes, therefore, only act on the surface without affecting the inside of the wood. Our coffee table has taken on a personal and unrepeatable charm, becoming a discreet and innovative piece of furniture, capable of creating calm and peaceful atmospheres, lending romanticism and refinement to any type of furnishing. It is a perfect and typical example of Art Deco, which thanks to its charm and refinement manages to communicate suggestions of times gone by, tradition and functionality. It measures 71 cm in diameter, 64 cm in height. The object has been treated with antique manual restoration techniques by our team of craftsmen and is in excellent condition. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
