Elda armchair with footstool by Joe Colombo for Longhi, 1990s
A newly produced original armchair, perfect in every detail. Elda was the first chair to use large fibreglass surfaces reinforced with plastic. Its design was created in 1963 and started to be produced in 1965 by Comfort and then by F.lli Longhi in the 2000s. For his design, Joe Colombo was inspired by ship hulls and used shipbuilding technology to create it. The self-supporting structure is placed on a swivel base with an overlay of upholstered cushions covered in leather. With its wrap-around top, this piece of furniture creates a space in the room that acoustically isolates it from its surroundings.
