Triumph of fruit and flowers by Carlo De Tommasi, oil on canvas 80 x 120 cm, Italy 2008. The beautiful painting is inspired by the work of the brilliant Franco-Flemish painter Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer, specialized in floral works. His lavish, monumental and elegantly decorative conception of the floral still life remained normative in France until the mid-18th century. Our admirable canvas shows Monnoyer's qualities as a colourist, his technical virtuosity in the mimetic rendering of the large number of species of flowers and fruits reproduced, the elegance and freedom of his compositions.
