Emilio Lancia (1890-1973) was an Italian architect and one of the main exponents of the "Novecento" style. He attended the Architecture course at the Regio Istituto Tecnico Superiore, where he met Giuseppe de Finetti. At the outbreak of World War I he attended the Military Academy in Turin together with Gio Ponti, and during the war he met Giovanni Muzio and Mino Fiocchi; at the end of it he finished his studies and, after a period of practice at Luca Beltrami's studio, opened a studio in Via Sant'Orsola with de Finetti and Muzio.
After some youthful projects, which met with considerable appreciation, he began to collaborate on an ongoing basis with Gio Ponti, creating a number of projects in the new style known as the "Novecento," which harkened back to the Lombard neoclassical tradition.
There followed a gradual evolution toward Rationalism, accepted, however, only in some of its formal aspects, which led to a final break with Ponti. Lancia continued his career with several prestigious projects.
