Item description

Oil painting on canvas depicting Rest on the Flight into Egypt, referable to the exquisite production of the Neapolitan school of the first half of the 18th century. The whole scene is connoted by the dominance of brown and ochre colors, from which only Mary's dress, in the traditional blues and greens, differs; in the background, a clear sky in the colors of a newly dawned sunrise, with rosy hues. The theme of a sacred nature takes on a familiar connotation in this scene, full of tenderness and intimacy that are really very earthly: Joseph and Mary sit resting during their flight to Egypt to escape Herod's persecution; the mother holds baby Jesus on her lap, looks tenderly at him and swaddles him, while Joseph is dedicated to reading serene and relaxed. Painting complete with certificate of authenticity.
