Item description

Four Armloffel chairs made by Wittmann (Vienna 1896), a model designed by the Moravian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956) in 1908. This lot dates back to a production of 1960. Good condition. Normal traces of wear, given the age, 65 years, armrests abraded on the edges, and on some angular parts of the wood, minimal nicks in some points, angular. Slight marks on the skin of the pillow. Structure in ebonized ash wood in black finish, with cushion upholstered in black leather with quilted stitching and button. Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956), was a contemporary of Charles R. Mackintosh (1868-1928) founder of the Glasgow school. Exponent of the Viennese Secession, with the architect Otto Wagner, whose work, marked by a push to clean and essential shapes of pure geometric abstraction (typical of its prevalent squares similar to the Scottish arch. C. R. Mackintosh). Open the 900 in a simple and modernistic key. For the magazine of the Secession, Ver Sacrum, published between 1898 and 1903, he produced illustrations and various furnishing projects for domestic interiors, and for exhibition pavilions, artistic features of the Austrian Jugendstil.
