Scene of resting in the woods, oil on canvas, 19th century
Scene of resting in the woods. Oil on canvas. The large scene with a veristic subject, is set in a dense forest where, near a spring, a small family has stopped for a rest stop: having left the wagon with their belongings (without a horse, therefore pulled by hand!), a man, a woman and a large group of young children, are resting, eating, refreshing themselves at the spring and playing. From the top left, a ray of sunlight filters through the trees, which goes to illuminate the group of figures placed in the center below, the protagonists of the scene. The painting is presented in a late 19th-early 20th-century gilt frame.
