Item description

Gustave oval table from the Jugendstil Decoforma series by Frits Schuitema for Schuitema, 1960s-70s. Very good condition with minimal signs of use. Made of solid Slavonian oak; four-wing base, relief-edged top composed of boards bayonet-fitted horizontally to each other. Great work of craftsmanship and high cabinet-making with finishes on the feet and structural base. Furniture made of interlocking and contrasting wooden dowels in darker wood type. Cherry wood finish. Top thickness: 2.5 cm. The Decoforma collection is unique in its kind, for the very high construction quality, the choice and selection of materials used in the furnishing products. Frits Schuitema designer furniture is inspired by the design classics of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright. The furniture from the Jugendstil series is handmade based on a design by Frits Schuitema himself. They are inspired by timeless, elegant lines combined with a touch of classicism. The Schuitema collection represents the highest segment of Art Deco/Art Nouveau furniture. With the name of Jugendstil, art historians indicate the experiences conducted in Germany and Switzerland in the context of Art Nouveau. The term Jugendstil was inspired by the title of a magazine published in Munich, Germany, Jugend, founded in 1886. Jugend can be translated as "young", so Jugendstil can be interpreted as "New Style". The magazine published many works by contemporary authors promoting the Art Nouveau language of graphics and applied arts. Finally, the magazine Insel used the term Jugendstil in an article for the first time.
