The scene takes place at a military encampment: outside a tent on the left a leader of an army, probably Greek, is receiving offerings from a group of men, poor and ragged, who prostrate themselves before their new master; the first is handing out loaves of bread, another is pulling something out of a sack, the third is showing the sores on his body to plead for mercy; behind them other questing figures are approaching, forming a scattered row on the fading path in the distance on the right. In the background on the left ferments life in the military camp. The painting has been restored and retiled.
