Item description

Oil painting on panel by Angelo Abrate depicting a view of Giaveno with the church of Magdalene (Pra-Fieul), 1940s. Signed. Size without frame: 29.5 x 41.5 cm. Angelo Abrate, born on 21 April 1900 in Turin and died on 10 September 1985 in Sallanches (Haute-Savoie, France), was a painter known above all for his mountain scenes. Of Piedmontese origins, he spent part of his childhood in Marseille after his parents emigrated there in 1908. Returning to Turin at the age of 16, he initially worked in a metalworking workshop to support his family. His passion for the mountains led him to practice mountaineering, obtaining various records in the most important mountaineering. At the age of 27, after the success of his first exhibitions, he decided to dedicate himself completely to painting. He moved first to Courmayeur, then permanently to France.
