Group of four engravings by Francesco Bartolozzi, late 18th century (circa 1790). They depict Ceres et Pomona (allegories of abundance), A St. Giles's Beauty and A St. James's Beauty. Engravings in the dotted manner, printed on laid paper with sanguine ink. The engraver is Francesco Bartolozzi, born in Florence in 1727, died in Lisbon in 1815, one of the most famous and appreciated Italian engravers; he successfully interpreted the various carving methods: etching, burin, dotted manner. Wagner's student in Venice, he then moved to London where he found international success and became the owner of his own workshop. From the subject of John Hodges Benwell (1764 - 1785), a young and award-winning contemporary painter, who died prematurely. His works have been lost and are known today thanks to Bartolozzi's engravings which reproduce them; Giovanni Battista Cipriani, painter, designer and engraver born in Florence in 1727 and died in London in 1790, his artistic union with Bartolozzi is a guarantee of refined and elegant creations. Beautiful contemporary gold leaf frames. The tondos have a diameter of 27 cm, the oval ones measure 24 x 21 cm. The prints are accompanied by the certificate of authenticity.
