Classic and elegant pair of antique Syrian carved walnut armchairs with shell inlays, late 19th century. The chairs are hand-carved walnut with a slatted design. The wood is carved with an intricate geometric design and has sporadic shell inlays. The chair rails are shaped, resembling architectural elements, and are carved.
The backrests curve to follow the shape of the backrest and join the elegant stones that rest on the seat. The elegant armrests and intersecting legs form a graceful silhouette. The seats are made of slats that provide a sturdy seating surface. These types of chairs are commonly called "scribes' chairs." It is assumed that they were used by traveling scribes, offering comfortable seating during long hours of transcription. The chairs appear to be in good condition with slight signs of wear commensurate with their age.
They measure cm 52 x 50 x height 82.
