Painted porcelain tile. Berlin, last quarter 19th century. The delicate porcelain depicts Queen Louise of Prussia (1776 -1810). The Queen is dressed in a white dress edged with gold, in the Empire style, while on one shoulder she wears a blue cape lined with ermine; her blond hair is gathered up and held back thanks to a gold tiara. Luisa is descending the steps of a classical building: the base and lower part of a tapering column can be glimpsed, just as the herms in the background look to the ancient world, while a wooded landscape can be seen in the background. The porcelain is marked on the reverse with the royal sceptre accompanied by the initials ‘KPM’, also impressed with ‘255-195’, ‘h’ and monogram. The painting is signed Wagner. Presented in a coeval frame richly carved with scrolls and fully gilded.
