Magnificent painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas of excellent pictorial quality as it is a replica from the workshop of Francesco Solimena (1657-1747), lacking authenticity. The painting depicts a very fascinating biblical episode, Bathsheba bathing. From the terrace of his palace King David notices a beautiful woman who was bathing and falls in love with her. Bathsheba, however, is the wife of one of her generals and to have her the King will send her husband to the front line where she will lose her life. The woman is surrounded by splendid slaves intent on washing her and playing musical instruments. In the distance we see the incredible architecture of Jerusalem while on the left we glimpse King David. A painting of notable pictorial quality which can be found in particular in the creation of the wonderful drapery of the robes and in moving details, such as the little dog at the bottom left. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Work that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some places. Overall in good state of conservation. Light painting H 101 x W 126 cm.
