Italian painting from the first half of the 19th century. Oil on panel work of notable pictorial quality depicting a mythological scene of great charm. We find the iconographic prototype of Apollo dancing with the Muses that Baldassarre Peruzzi created for the Palatine Gallery of Palazzo Pitti in Florence in 1518. At the center of the composition we see Apollo, the God of music and the arts, surrounded by the nine Muses, each a symbol of a particular discipline. The figures dance on a wonderful gold background which enhances the light and luminous colors of the floating tunics. We then find in the lower part some cartouches with the names of the Muses written in Greek characters. Spectacular contemporary frame in wood and gilded plaster, with small defects (see photo). Work with some color losses, overall in good state of conservation. Painting part of a pair, see photo and ask for the price of the matching paintings if still available. Light painting H 35 x W 78 cm.
