Mythological painting, allegory of Venus and Mars, 17th century
French mythological picture of the second half of the seventeenth century. Oil work on canvas depicting a magnificent allegory of Venus and Mars, of considerable pictorial quality and monumental dimensions. Immersed in a lush landscape we find the protagonists, Venus impersonated by a beautiful girl who looks in the mirror while Mars is deprived of the armor by a whirlwind of Amorini. The richness of the drapery, the abundance of figures and the liveliness of the gestures give dynamism to the composition and accentuate the theatrical dimension of the work. Cake of the 20th century in carved, lacquered and golden wood, with some signs of time. Work already restored with Rintelo, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small points. Overall in good conservative state. Painted light h 153 x l 120 cm.
