Painting on table, the martyrdom of Santo, 17th -century
Rare Italian religious picture of the first half of the seventeenth century. Oil work on table depicting the martyrdom of Santo Stefano, difficult to find. At the center of the composition we find the first Christian martyr, with the traditional red deacon Dalmatian Dalmatics, while suffering the stone. Around him we see his executioners intent on throwing great stones. Above the saint a celestial vision, a glory of clouds with God the Father and Christ ready to welcome the soul of the saint. Painted with considerable pictorial quality, the hot chromatism, the well -studied drapery and the drama of the gestures recall the late Mannerist Lombard school. Cake of the 20th century in carved and golden wood, with some signs of the time. Framework already restored with color recovery in some places, overall in good conservative state. Painted light H 104 x L 82 cm.
