Item description

Small Lombard desk in Louis XVI style. Materials and inlays: Made of precious rosewood, bois de rose and bosso woods, it has a rich veneer with inlays that enhance its beauty. The rectangular plan is beautifully decorated with a central reserve of circular shape. Inside there is a mythological scene, probably Diana Cacciatrice with a putto, made of bosso wood creating chromatic contrast and depth. The central reserve is surrounded by an inlay frame with a stylized plant motif in Ramages, typical of the time, which is repeated along the entire edge of the plane. The side bands of the plane show a vein of the wood arranged in a thorn of fish or "paintings", creating a dynamic visual effect. Structure and details: The desk is equipped with a front drawer, skillfully hidden and integrated into the band below the plan. The drawer is embellished with a brass knob handle. The legs, tapered and with a quadrangular section, are raking downwards, giving lightness and momentum to the structure. In the upper part, on the attack with the stem, the legs are decorated with stylized floral inlays, inserted in a dark field that creates a further contrast. Style: the Louis XVI style is evident in the clean lines and in the harmony of proportions. The inlay decoration, although rich, maintains a certain sobriety and a classic taste, detaching itself from the redundancies of the Rococo. The choice of woods and the accuracy of the inlays reflect the mastery of the 18th century Lombard ebanists. Conditions: Restored and polished with turmoil stretched to buffer thus enhancing the veins and inlays. Lombardy, late of the eighteenth century. Dimensions: Height: 76 cm Width: about 78 cm Depth: about 38 cm Regular certificate of authenticity with photos is issued.
