Magnificent Italian picture of the first half of the nineteenth century. Oil work on table depicting a splendid Virgin Mary, of considerable pictorial quality. The young woman is portrayed in a devotional attitude with her gaze facing upwards, immersed in a bright aura. The face is angelic, with soft and idealized features, with loose hair on the shoulders and covered by a light transparent veil. The dress is sumptuous, a pink tunic with green embroidery and gold and a blue mantle with a wonderful drapery.
Attributable to Italian neoclassicism, the work is attributable to the great painter Pelagio Palagi (1775-1860). Painting on table, a predict technique both from Palagi and from the rival Francesco Hayez, allowed him to achieve effects of great refinement in the enameled color tones, in the widespread brightness and in the gradualness of the chiaroscuro passages. (The painting is not currently accompanied by Expertise, but it is possible to request it upon payment of the related additional costs).
It presents on the back a hand inscription "Property of Mr. Ambrogio Baduelli" and a wax stamp, probably identifying the belonging to an important collection or Fedecommesso. Ideal for classic or eclectic environments, the work is perfect for a study or bedroom. It is not only a painting, but a luminous and spiritual presence that lives space with grace. Coeval frame in carved and golden wood, of beautiful decoration, with some signs of time. Overall operates in good conservative state. Painted light H 60 x L 46 cm.
