Neoclassical painting Myth of Europe , 19th century
Wonderful Italian mythological painting of the first half of the 19th century. Great oil on canvas work, in the first canvas, depicting the myth of Europe. According to legend, Zeus, in love with Princess Fenicia, turned into a shining white bull to bring her closer. The young girl and her handmaids, attracted by the beauty and meekness of the animal, stroked him and crowned it with flowers. Europe rose to the back of the bull and it is then that Zeus launched himself into the sea bringing it to Crete. The painting takes a very rare moment almost never depicted, the moment before violence, where Europe is not a victim but a central and poetic figure. Work of the neoclassical school where the grace of the figures and the chromatic balance reveal the hand of an Italian artist of great culture and sensitivity. Perfect for an elegant lounge or library, the picture can be easily set even in a modern context. Coeval frame in carved and golden wood, of beautiful decoration, with some golden falls. Framework already restored with color recovery in small points. It has some signs of the time, overall in good conservative state. Painted light H 146 x L 97.5 cm.
