Item description

Artist: Ernesto Treccani (Milan, 1920 – 2009) Title: Face Technique: Mixed media on canvas Dimensions: 25 x 35 cm 46 X 56 the frame Period/Certification: Dated 26 September 1977. On the back is the authenticity and provenance label of the prestigious auction house Rizzoli Finarte (Penta Arte) of Milan, with catalogue number 0547 and code 0040/U/1977/FI. Conservation status: Excellent. The work is presented in a period gilded frame with fabric passe-partout. Critical Description The work represents a female face treated with Treccani's typical lyrical sensitivity. The style is rarefied, almost ethereal: the artist uses fine lines and pastel-colored glazes to bring out the somatic features directly from the canvas's texture. The eyes, hinted at with touches of deep blue, give the gaze a melancholic and dreamy intensity, a peculiar characteristic of the master's mature production, aimed at investigating the essence of the human soul rather than its objective reality.
