Andrea Mozzali
Andrea Mozzali, sculptor, restorer and painter, was born in Guastalla in 1895.
Student and collaborator of Alceo Dossena in Parma and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, he worked with him as a sculptor for the Palazzo Ducale of Guastalla - at the time owned by the Mossina family -, and for other clients. He created busts of historical figures, such as Ferrante Gonzaga, Isabella of Capua, Lucrezia Borgia, and commemorative monuments, for example that to the fallen of the Great War - a conflict in which he himself participated - in San Girolamo di Guastalla.
In 1939 he presented his works at the First Art Exhibition of the Technical Institute of Guastalla. He then began to dedicate himself to the fields of restoration, classical sculpture, cemetery headstones for churches in the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Brescia.
In the following years, his appearances in collective exhibitions continued: in Italy - in Milan, Luzzara, Guastalla, Biella, Correggio, Mirandola, Suzzara, Mantua, Bologna, Prato, Ancona, Rome, Reggio Emilia -, and abroad - in Zagreb and Lugano -.
One of the few sincere friends of Antonio Ligabue, Mozzali hosted the artist in his home and took responsibility for his discharge from the psychiatric hospital.
