17th century Spanish Baroque oil on canvas - The Holy Family with the Lamb, Circle/Workshop/Follower of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo 17th century intimate Spanish devotional painting: Holy Family with Baby Jesus on the sacrificial Lamb, Virgin Mary, St. Joseph reading and St. John the Baptist as a child. Attributed to the circle of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (Seville, ca. 1660-1680). Soft chiaroscuro, delicate nuance and warm palette characteristic of Murillo's style. Bartolomé Esteban Murillo's circle (or workshop/follower). - Soft, diffused light and nuanced skin tones - Delicate rosy modeling of the children's faces and round bodies - Light brushstrokes on the lamb's fleece and flowing drapery - Intimate and gentle atmosphere typical of Murillo - Close similarities to his documented compositions of the Holy Family and the Infant Saint John (National Gallery of London, Prado, Budapest) approx. 100 × 75 cm Provenance: formerly in a European private collection; purchased on the antiques market in Vienna (Austria). The object has been in Europe for several decades.
