Ancient Flemish painting from the 17th century. Oil on panel work depicting a splendid Madonna with child inside a niche surrounded by a garland of masterfully painted flowers and fruits. It has a symbol carved on the back of the table referable to the Guild of Saint Luke (see photo), a guild of artists active in Antwerp during the Baroque period.
The composition follows the style of Cornelis Schut (1597-1655), a pupil of Rubens, and both were members of the guild alongside the greatest painters of the Golden Age of the Netherlands. Work of beautiful size and proportion, for antique dealers and collectors, difficult to find. Painting that has undergone some small restoration touches, overall in excellent condition.
