Set of six “Medea” model chairs designed by Vittorio Nobili for Tagliabue Fratelli, with curved mahogany shell and metal structure.
Set of six “Medea” model chairs designed by Vittorio Nobili in collaboration with Tagliabue Fratelli in the 1950s, one of the most recognizable projects of post-war Italian design. The model was born from the meeting between the design creativity of the architects and the artisanal knowledge of the Brianza industries, in particular of the Tagliabue Fratelli cabinet-making shop, with which Sediamedea experimented with new techniques for working with curved wood. The chair is characterized by a shaped and curved mahogany shell, with a fluid and enveloping line, without edges and designed to follow the natural inclination of the body. The project stands out for the refined balance between solids and voids. The seat rests on thin black metal legs, which create an elegant contrast between materials. In 1956, the chair received an Honorable Mention at the Compasso d'Oro, a recognition that established its value in the panorama of Italian design.
