An exceptionally rare and artistically refined antique Indian ivory sphere, masterfully assembled from multiple ivory segments, hand-carved and richly engraved with black ink.
This remarkable object showcases the superior skill of an Indian master artisan from the late Mughal or early colonial period. The surface features dynamic hunting scenes: leaping tigers, a mahout riding a richly decorated elephant with howdah, birds, palm trees, and lush floral and geometric arabesques in classic Oriental style. The top is adorned with an exceptionally detailed rosette.
The sphere displays a beautiful natural patina, visible joins between the ivory segments, age cracks, and the warm yellowish tone characteristic of antique ivory — all confirming its authenticity and age. Likely created in workshops in regions such as Delhi, Lucknow, or South India, where the tradition of ivory carving and decoration was highly developed.
