Item description

Giuseppe Manfredi (Seravezza, Lucca, 1934 - Montecatini Terme, Pistoia, 1987) Oil on panel depicting a tourist port, original work signed and dated 1972. Painting size: 70 x 50 cm; frame size: 98 x 78 cm. For safety reasons, the work is shipped without glass. Giuseppe Manfredi's research focused on the still life genre and his painting style recalls that of Morandi. Like the great Bolognese master, Manfredi tried to capture the very essence of things (the noumenon) on the canvas, without departing from sensory reality (the phenomenon). For this reason he engaged in a deep reflection on objects in order to obtain the most vivid image possible. In this process, the painter is guided by the light that envelops the composition, which leads him to reduce the objects to their essence. The result is an almost diaphanous image, yet one of exceptional vitality and dynamism, imbued with authentic existential (and luminous) vibrations. Formal perfection and compositional balance constitute another fundamental element, rooted in the great tradition of Italian painting. Giuseppe Manfredi was born in Serravezza di Lucca in 1934 and died in Montecatini in 1987. His pictorial work focused mainly on still life, of which he created numerous variations. His style is inspired by Giorgio Morandi in this same exploration of the essence of things through the action of light.
