Item description

Ancient oil on canvas painting depicting the Virgin and Child, characterized by an iconographic composition of popular and archaic inspiration; probably of provincial or popular origin (perhaps Italian – central or southern – or colonial) and dating back to the 17th or 18th century. The work shows the crowned Virgin –wearing a dark cloak edged in green and blue– embracing the Child Jesus, who tenderly touches her chin, a gesture of affection typical of some variants of the icon *Salus Populi Romani* or other devotional images. Condition: The canvas has been rebound and has only minor marginal touches. Dimensions: 50 x 63 cm.
