A monumental bronze sculpture entitled Seascape by the distinguished Dutch sculptor Erwin Meijer (b. 1968), created in 2006 and exemplifying the characteristic features of the artist`s mature period. The work presents a compelling composition centred on a reclining female figure, conceived in broad, simplified sculptural volumes, in which monumentality of form is combined with poetic symbolism and philosophical resonance. The figure is modelled with remarkable sculptural freedom and an inherent sense of harmony. Flowing contours, restrained modelling and carefully balanced proportions convey an atmosphere of repose and contemplation. The fine green patina enhances the architectural quality of the bronze, animating the surface through changing light and revealing the depth of the modelling. Particular emphasis is placed on the miniature boats organically incorporated into the composition. Their presence directly evokes the artist`s title, Seascape: the human body becomes a sculptural landscape across which the small vessels appear to travel. The contrast in scale between the monumental female figure and the boats lends the work a poetic ambiguity and takes it beyond the conventions of traditional figurative sculpture. Within Erwin Meijer`s artistic vocabulary, the boat assumes a symbolic dimension, evoking associations with memory, the journey through life, inner passage and the flow of time. Through the conjunction of the human figure, an imagined landscape and the motif of movement, the composition acquires the character of a contemporary philosophical allegory in which the human form is perceived simultaneously as figure and space. The sculpture is executed in cast bronze and is distinguished by the high quality of its craftsmanship. Signed by the artist and numbered 1/8, it belongs to a limited edition of eight casts. The bronze was cast by Art Casting in Oudenaarde, Belgium. The accomplished quality of the bronze casting is evident in the faithful translation of the artist`s model, the fluid transitions between volumes and the refined treatment of the patinated surface. The green patina accentuates the sculptural relief and creates a striking contrast with the tall black stone pedestal. The strict verticality of the pedestal provides an architectural foundation for the elongated horizontal silhouette of the figure, reinforcing the monumentality of the composition as a whole. The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued and signed by Erwin Meijer in Arnhem, the Netherlands, on 16 August 2026. Its monumental scale, limited edition, documented authorship and distinctive sculptural language establish Seascape as a significant work of contemporary European figurative sculpture. The work is particularly suited to private and corporate collections of contemporary art, as well as distinguished interior, architectural and landscape settings.
