The scene centers on a small herd of cows and sheep grazing outside the farmers' house; a couple sits watching over the animals outside the farmhouse, the woman spinning, the man weaving a wicker basket. Behind them are the other houses of the humble village, made of stone and straw.
The work draws on older examples of idealized pastoral landscapes, but with a very working-class and poor setting.
The canvas has a slight tear in the center.
It is presented in a late 19th-early 20th-century frame.
