A rare Bayard wall clock, made in France in the second half of the twentieth century and dating back to the late 1950s/1960s, features a distinctive asymmetrical design and an aesthetic strongly representative of the French modernism of the period. The black lacquered wood frame has an original sculptural and asymmetrical shape, with a profile reminiscent of the design of electronic devices and televisions of the time. This distinctive formal design is typical of some mid-century Bayard models, now sought-after for their decorative character and original design. The dial is dominated by an elegant contrast of black, white, and brass. The black center is surrounded by a large, light-colored ring bearing the hour markers. The Arabic numerals, alternating with linear indices, feature a simple graphic design. The BAYARD signature appears at the center of the dial, an important element that allows the clock to be attributed to the historic French manufacturer. The elongated and tapered gold hands are particularly elegant, echoing the geometric language of the indexes and contributing to the high readability of the dial with a refined and almost sculptural look. On the back, the Bayard movement is visible, complete with its battery housing. The whole ensemble perfectly represents the French taste of the mid-20th century, when everyday objects began to take on increasingly innovative, geometric and decorative shapes. It is a particularly interesting piece for enthusiasts of French modernism, Mid-Century Modern, Space Age and European design from the 1950s and 1960s.
