This “Confidential” three-seater sofa is composed of two modules. It was designed by Alberto Rosselli for Saporiti in 1972. Rosselli (1921–1976) was an architect and partner of Gio Ponti in the Ponti-Fornaroli-Rosselli studio. He founded the magazine Stile Industria in 1954 and was among the promoters of ADI, which makes him one of the key figures in the definition of Italian industrial design. The Confidential was one of the first modular seating systems conceived for the home: the same elements can be arranged as a straight sofa, a corner group or separate armchairs. Each module has a steel frame encased in injected polyurethane foam. It rests on a moulded fibreglass-reinforced base set back beneath the upholstery, so the sofa appears to sit directly on the floor. This example is upholstered in ochre suede. Its loose seat and back cushions give the model its soft, rounded silhouette. The low seat (31 cm) and the 85 cm depth produce the relaxed lounge posture typical of Italian living rooms of the 1970s.
