Antique French painting from the 17th century. Fine quality oil on panel work depicting La femme forte Déborah, a typical subject in vogue in the first half of the 17th century. During this period several famous painters tried their hand at painting the strong woman, paintings with female subjects of different historical and religious backgrounds, including Lucretia, Cleopatra, Esther, and Judith. Women often of high birth who had distinguished themselves through courage, beauty and commitment to the ideals of family, nation and noble individuality. Painting adorned with non-coeval, 20th-century wood and plaster frame, richly carved and gilded, complete with velvet passe-partout (see photo). Rectangular painting rounded at top, niche-shaped (see photo), very pleasing. Work of excellent luminosity for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of genre painting. Board that has undergone conservation restoration, nice palette work visible on the back (see photo) and resumption de color in some places. Painting overall in good state of preservation.
