Oil painting on canvas ("prima tela") depicting a Romantic landscape made in Holland in the second half of the 19th century. Exceptionally large painting adorned with sensational coeval frame, in wood and plaster, finely carved and gilded; frame structurally solid, with some lack of plaster decoration (see photo). Work of pleasing depth with mountains in the background and river on the right; on the left the painter inserts a female figure immersed in nature (see photo). However, as in many Romantic works, the real protagonist is nature itself, wild and immense, before which man is powerless. Painting signed at lower right (see photo); signature under study. Work that underwent conservation restoration during the 20th century. In beautiful patina, overall in good state of preservation with some signs of time. Size without frame: 135 x 161 cm.
