Art Deco Secrétaire by Jindrich Halabala for UP Závody, 1930s. Catalogue piece. Few pieces were made in the 1930s, only to order. Solid walnut frame, mahogany and poplar veneers inside and out. Original re-chromed handle, straps and fittings. Jindřich Halabala, Czech industrial designer, writer and educator, was an important advocate of modernist and industrially produced furniture in Czechoslovakia and had an enormous influence on the interior design of many Czech homes between and after the wars.
