Artwork "Four-panel composition" by Gabriella Benedini (1932) from 1978. Mixed media painting on canvas applied to wooden panels proposing a sequence. On the lower right are the artist's initials GB and the numbering of the panels; on the verso of each panel are the signature in full, the date, and the following sequential titles: "By Bosch," "Declination of an Owl," "Transcription" and "Disappearance by Coquetry". Gabriella Benedini has defined her artist figure as "a nomad in search of the deep meaning of things". Although attracted and interested by abstract-informal painting first, by Existential Realism and New Figuration later, Benedini proceeds by a strictly personal research that cannot be assimilated to any specific current. The entire 1970s are marked mainly by pictorial works that are a reflection of literary cues filtered through her need for growth and confrontation. Through then her passion for Alchemy, Benedini begins to transform into works of art anything that comes her way: shells, pages of old books, bottles, everything is combined into a harmonious whole that resembles spaces. Her works therefore become mostly three-dimensional, or to hang on the wall, or they are sculptures, even large ones. The four panels are presented here in a single frame.
