The painting depicts the miracle of water, which Moses causes to gush forth from a rock, under the gaze of God and while the people watch in surprise and praise. The setting of the scene is actually in a verdant landscape, which was the artist's, while the figures are in oriental dress. The painting, restored and re-framed, is presented in a styled frame.
