Oil on canvas. The scene recounts the biblical episode from the Book of Exodus, in which Moses prays to the Lord to help the people of Israel who, fleeing from Egypt, find themselves in the Sinai desert without food or water. The painting depicts the miracle of water, which Moses causes to gush forth from a rock, under the gaze of God and while the people watch in surprise and praise. The setting of the scene is actually in a verdant landscape, which was the artist's, while the figures are in oriental dress. The painting, restored and re-framed, is presented in a styled frame.
