Item description

Charming and refined French dining table. An oval top is supported by four legs with a circular section and slightly wider in the centre, the upper and lower parts are all decorated with a brass empire and are connected by a massive X-shaped structure. The table can be extended up to to a maximum size of 240 cm with two extensions (it can also be opened with just one extension). The extension plans are missing but we can tell you the cost of making them by providing them to you, or you can easily make them (or have them made) yourself. The most convincing aspect of this table is the wood with which it was made: sapele. The oval top was subjected to a unique and special process carried out entirely by hand which includes meticulous smoothing and a special polishing carried out in 12 steps with a cotton pad soaked in shellac and straw-coloured oil with pumice stone powder; these techniques have allowed us to enhance the colors and flame of the Wood Wood, giving our table a unique and exclusive elegance and refinement. Sapele (or Sapelli or Sapeli) is a species of precious wood with a reddish hue originating from West Africa. It has characteristics similar to mahogany and in some applications even better than mahogany itself; it is a strong, hard, compact and rather flexible wood; also due to its attractive appearance, it is used as a substitute for mahogany for high-quality furniture, such as wardrobes, tables, chairs and chests of drawers, for fine cabinet-making work, for the creation of musical instruments and for furnishing luxury boats . Sapele is characterized by shades ranging from red to dark brown, often with darker veins and black stripes. Its consistency is uniform and has a shiny appearance. Additionally, sapele is known for its strength and hardness. It has good impact resistance and good durability, making it suitable for furniture and objects subject to mechanical stress. The table was created between 1910 and 1915 in a cabinet-making workshop in Le Havre, a city on the northern coast of France. Le Havre was a major port and furniture manufacturing center in the early 20th century. The furniture factories of Le Havre produced a wide range of styles, from classical to more modern influences, with an emphasis on the craftsmanship of fine woods. The cabinet makers who worked on this table, giving it small dimensions but with intelligent functional solutions for use, managed to create an extraordinary, refined and compelling piece of furniture, which due to its extreme elegance and its soft line make it extremely versatile and easily placed in any environment. The table is in good condition. It measures 144 cm wide, 120 cm deep, 76 cm high, 66 cm seat height, 240 cm maximum opening. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) to guarantee maximum protection and safety of the objects.
